  • Nov. 2: Full Moon, Nov. 16: New Moon
  • Nov. 7: Project Feeder Watch starts and extends until April.
  • Nov. 17-18: Leonid Meteor showers.
  • Nov. 26:  Many turkeys will make the ultimate sacrifice today...HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
  • Wintering wading birds begin foraging in crawfish ponds.
  • Major migration period begins for most waterfowl during the early part of the month.
  • Bald Eagles begin nesting this month with young ready to fly by late February.
  • Common Loons arrive from the north.
  • Asters continue to bloom, mostly during the first two weeks of November.
  • Feeders get busier as the month progresses.
  • American Goldfinches arrive in large numbers.
  • Peak number of Whooping Cranes pass through the west of the region during middle of month.

  • Resident birds that may have left their home territory return for the winter.
  • Peregrine Falcons sometimes hunt from tall buildings in Louisiana cities (including downtown Lafayette).  Their dive speeds can exceed 80 miles per hour!
